Streaming Video

http://www.ripbs.org/Education/video_streaming.html

In this article, it explains what streaming is, how it works, and what the benefits are in using it. Streaming video is a sequence of moving images that are sent in over the internet and displayed by the viewer as they arrive. Streaming media is streaming video with sound. With streaming video or streaming media, a viewer does not have to wait to download a large file before seeing the video or hearing the sound. Instead, the media is sent in a continuous stream and is played as it arrives. The user needs a player, which is a special program that sends video data to the display and audio data to speakers. A player can come with a computer software or the viewer can download one straight from the internet such as Window's Media Player, Quicktime, or RealPlayer.
The advantages of using streaming video are that students can access it from any computer with internet access whether it be at home or at school. The streaming video also grabs the students attention which helps to keep them focused in class or while doing homework. I think a good way of assigning homework is to have the student watch the streaming video and have them answer some questions that correspond with the video that make it known that they watched it. As of right now, streaming videos are not a big part of the classroom but slowly but surely it will be a very helpful useful task in teaching.

Great job on your blog! I completely agree that streaming video should be used in the classroom. However, I do not think that we should become to dependent on a technology such as this. I do not think that the students should be using videos to learn on a daily basis, but they definitely are an addition, that if used correctly could have a positive influence in the classroom. Thanks for sharing your information.

I like reading your blog. I liked how you talked about the advantages of streaming video because I agree with you when you say that is keeps students attention and keeps them intrigued. I like your idea about homework and having students watch a streaming video and answering questions. Great Job!
