Before this article, I did not know what storyboarding was. Storyboarding is the use of charts and pictures to teach something. Many students nowadays use storyboarding to learn a lesson much easier. According to this aritcle, its when a student breaks down what they are going to write about. For example, in the article the example given is when a third grader has to write a story about a day at the park with their family. The student has a hard time writing about it because he/she doesn't know where to start. The steps that are given in the article are to write different main parts on a piece of scrap paper. Then to write down the "big ideas". The "big ideas" are the biggest things that happened on the trip. Then once everything is written down, the story is ready to be written. The concept of storyboarding is breaking down a bigger idea into smaller parts and writing about them. "When you “storyboard,” you are helping your child with a crucial skill of seeing big ideas with several parts, and then fitting specific supporting ideas within them in a logical way." Teaching your child to storyboard is a crucial part in the ability to write. Many students develop problems in writing short stories in the third grade and sometimes never actually develop a technique in storyboarding.
