Blogging

http://www.education-world.com/a_tech/tech/tech217.shtml

A blog entry usually consists of a title, headline, body, post date, comments, tags, and more. One great thing about blogs is that they are almost always customizable. You can select your template which determines how your blog looks, including its layout, which is usually provided by the blogging company you are using. Before blogging, there were other ways for people to communicate online, such as chronicles, diaries, email lists, bulletin board systems, and more. When the internet came about, users wanted a way to communicate with people all over the world. Before the internet, many people had pen pals to mail to every now and then. Today, we can have that with multiple people nearly anywhere. You can create a blog on whatever topic you like, use the template you want, and write in it when you want. In education, blogs can be used to keep the students up to date on homework assignments, test dates, or quizzes. Also in online classes it is a good way to let your students express their opinion on a certain subject and read their peers blog and write their comment on theirs. Blogging is fun, especially if you enjoy writing. It is a great stress reliever, and you can have it any way you want. This is the only blog I have currently. I used to blog a lot in high school but now I don't find the time to do it. Many websites are open to the public free to register such as Blogger or LiveJournal which I used to have personally.

Virtual Field Trips

Virtual field trips are electronic field trips you take your students on without leaving your classroom. This is a great way to have your students use computers and visuals. Like regular field trips, virtual field trips are designed to be entertaining and educational. Trips range from the simple, such as a photo tour of a famous museum, to extremely detailed and high-tech field trips that offer video and audio segments to make the visit more interactive. Virtual field trips are great to take your students anywhere it is impossible for them to go to like the planets or just to another country way far away from here. You can even take them on a virtual field trip inside the body. How cool would that be? I personally wish these were made when I was in middle school or even in high school. If you really make the virtual field trip interesting and exciting, your students will stay focused and entertained and more than likely will learn something because they actually paid attention.
Teachers can create a virtual field trip using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or a web page.
The teacher chooses various photos and videos that the students will view. After the field trip is over, the students will complete an activity or complete a quiz they will be graded on. You can find many links to different virtual field trips online if you just search it.
