In order to post something on a wiki, you must be a member. The advantages of being member is that you can edit other members wikis. I did not know these two fact until after I read this article. A "wiki" is a website where every page can be edited by whoever is reading it. There are many advantages and disadvantages in using wikis. Due to members being able to edit wikis, the information posted may sometimes be false or misleading. A wiki, however is very helpful when doing a large group project. It is very simple to write down notes. Websites such as wikipedia.com are sometimes prohibited to be used in research papers because of its uncertainty. Teachers don't want their students taking what sometimes is false information and using it in research papers. I personally enjoy reading websites such as wikipedia. It is a fast and easy way to look up something you are interested about. Wikipedia.com has every possible information and everything possible. Subjects you might not expect to be on their are on this website. Its an online encyclopedia. Another "wiki" website is wikianswers.com. It has answers to many questions. Only problem is that there are more than one answer that disagree with each other. Wikis are a good way to quickly learn something but in order to really learn about it in depth, you must actually study it instead of just reading up on it.

Laptops

About two years ago, a university in the northeast required every student to purchase a laptop for class. The problem was that many classes ended up not using the laptops. Now, laptops are quite pricey today. To make every student purchase one for their classes and then end up not using them for what they were purchased for is quite unfair. Yet again, many students use their laptops for other purposes. The dean of this university was questioned about this requirement. He envisioned that by purchasing the laptops, the students would get digital learning. The problem is that the faculty isn't using them in their curriculum. I believe that a laptop is a very big necessity in college. It is a portable way of keeping up with the world. But to make it a requirement for classes is unnecessary. Pretty much every course in college has a syllabus and the professor tends to put it online rather than hand it out on paper. This saves a lot of money in buying paper, it saves a lot of time, and it is less likely to lose it if it is saved onto a computer. If the dean of the university really wants to implement the use of laptops in classes, he must speak to the faculty and have them change their way of teaching. Many professors may not like this but in order to further students' knowledge in technology use, they must change their ways.
